# Update a lot

> Partially updates a lot's metadata. Only fields present in the body are
changed; omitted fields are left untouched. Pass `null` to clear a nullable
field. Metadata only — lot quantities are changed through inventory
adjustments, not here.

`lot_number` must stay unique within the lot's product. When a date is
edited, the `expiry_date` >= `production_date` rule is checked against the
lot's stored dates, so changing one date alone is still validated.
